Discover our best practices for optimising a web platform and providing a smooth and enjoyable experience on mobile. Thanks to the advice of our experts, transform your site into a high-performing and accessible space everywhere!

Mobile first: why is mobile optimisation imperative?

We first want to draw your attention to a fact you are likely already aware of: the use of smartphones is continually increasing. For most of us, our mobile phones have become an extension of ourselves.

So much so that today there are more mobile phones than there are human beings on earth. This means that not only are more and more people owning this type of device, but that, on top of that, some individuals possess several.

Currently, there are over 8 billion phones in circulation, of which more than half provide internet access. This gives us more than 4 billion devices with which it is possible to browse the internet and access it with a click.

Nowadays, approximately 60% of internet connections are made via a smartphone. For instance, we find that half of the users of our site access it via a mobile phone.

Given these significant figures, we believe it is essential to optimise a web platform to provide users with a mobile experience worthy of the name.

But how do we proceed?

Responsive design

First and foremost, it is crucial to ensure that the web platform is designed to be responsive. In other words, it should automatically adapt to all screen sizes, as well as to all types of devices (desktop, tablets, smartphones…)

Conceptualisation

Now, it is time to imagine and project what the mobile version could look like. This involves thinking about a model adapted to the content and visuals of the existing web platform, as well as identifying the elements to include in the mobile version. All while keeping in mind the users' needs and the constraints that screen size entails.

Design

  • There are several points that should not be overlooked when designing the mobile version.
  • Loading speed: This must be optimised at all costs, both for site visitors using a computer and those using their phone. The size of images and files plays an important role here; the heavier the image, the longer the site will take to load.
  • Navigation: The site must be adapted for touch and screen size, ensuring that everything accessible on a desktop or laptop is also accessible on mobile.

Adapted content: The content must be tailored for optimal display on mobile devices. For example, the font sizes should be considered to ensure they are readable.

Buttons and links: The buttons and links must be sufficiently large and spaced out to be easily clickable on a touchscreen.

Testing

Now that the mobile version is ready, it is time to conduct tests. This involves asking users to navigate the platform from a mobile device and perform various actions to determine the effectiveness and fluidity of the mobile version, making modifications if necessary. The aim here is to ensure that the user experience is optimal for the largest number of people.

In conclusion

Optimising your web platform for mobile is no longer an option but a necessity. By following these guidelines, you ensure a smooth and pleasant experience for your users, regardless of the device they are using.

So, are you ready to take your site to the next level?
