AVENUE H2020
Autonomous vehicles represent a revolution for public transport, particularly in underserved suburban areas. The European project AVENUE, led by the University of Geneva (UNIGE) with a budget of €22 million, aims to address the technological, regulatory, and commercial challenges in developing these innovative services.

Mobile application prototype
As the head of mobile services for passengers, MobileThinking has begun prototyping the mobile application. Over time, passenger services will improve and evolve. All newly conceived services will first be tested and validated by users using the prototype, and only then implemented.
Passengers will therefore be able to book their journey via a simple and user-friendly application. Services will be gradually enhanced, ranging from booking to interactive experiences on board.
Three Themes
Autonomous Driving
The first theme focuses on safety, traffic flow, and adaptability to exceptional road situations. Initially, it will only be studied in limited areas, whose environment has been previously fully mapped.
Route Optimisation
The second theme aims to optimise vehicle routes from a perspective of cost reduction and user comfort.
Vehicle Entry and Exit Services
The third theme concerns services inside and outside vehicles, such as augmented reality on windows, as well as assistance for children, elderly individuals, or passengers with specific needs.

The Partners
The AVENUE project consortium (Autonomous Vehicles to Evolve to a New Urban Experience) comprises 16 partners: universities, public transport operators, autonomous vehicle manufacturers, technology companies, and start-ups. Five Swiss entities are participating, including UNIGE, Geneva Public Transport (tpg), the State of Geneva, as well as two start-ups: MobileThinking (originating from UNIGE) and BestMile (founded at EPFL).
